Sharing My Yoga Podcasting Gear! (had a bit of fun with this one) NaVloPoMo09 Day 29

My set up - Medium.m4v (9587 KB)

I was inspired today’s daily video. I received another email asking me what equipment I use to record my podcast and I finally decided to do something about it, and I certainly had fun :)

I recorded this while Hunter was sleeping, hence the lack of speaking.

Thanks to Randy, I was able to find some public domain music to color the piece a bit. I also used iMovie to do all the fun effects and transitions.
If you want to know a bit more about the equipment itself you can read all about it, in my newest post on YoGeek.Me “Inexpensive Equipment For Recording Your Yoga Classes”

Happy Sunday!

Elsie Insights: I'm a Mom NaVloPoMo09 Day 27

Download now or watch on posterous
Ins - Medium.m4v (10413 KB)

You know those life altering insights? This is not one of them ;) Perhaps it’s the lack of sleep…. :D

I was feeling quite yummy this morning. I was walking to teach some yoga and I had a very familiar feeling. I felt so fully me. Like I’ve always remembered feeling…and I realized that now there was MORE but I still felt pretty much the same, and I look pretty much the same. I do pretty much the same stuff I’ve always done.

I think the largest change in my life since becoming a mother is that now I don’t get my 8-10 hrs of sleep a night that I ADORED.
Other than that…I’m just me

there
simple as that

:D
silly

Day Two: who are you trying to please

Bleachers-by-eschipul

As you’ve been pondering what you want, and continue to do so, be sure to take time to get yourself into the feeling place of what you want. In other words, what would that give you to have that? I encourage you to constantly ask yourself that about anything you think you want or need. Imagine what it would be like to already have it.

Imagine you already are more present, more patient, more creative, more loving…all those things you are saying you want. What is it like to be living that way? Go there in your mind OFTEN. The more you can FEEL as though you already have something, the more likely you are to have it. More on that throughout the course.

For today’s lesson: who are you trying to please? Whether we know it or not, there are probably bleachers full of people who are watching every move we make, all the time, in our own minds. Who sits in your bleachers? The relative who once told you she thought your kids were whiners? The mail carrier who made some comment once? The friend whom you admire so much that you try to be like him? The author of that book?

These are your INFLUENCERS. Consciously or unconsciously, these people have a say.  When you are making a decision or taking action based in reaction to one of those influencers, then what is the impact?

If the action or decision does not line up with your authentic self, and is instead a reaction, then you are likely to be agitated, irritated, impatient, angry, aggressive.

Once, a few weeks back, someone commented on the blog about this way of parenting being so outrageous and permissive etc etc. I realized after a few days that I had let her into my mind and given her some influence over my parenting. I was more black and white in my interactions with Elliott, and it didn’t feel good at all.

The other major influencers we may have unknowingly are images we hold of THE GOOD PARENT and THE BAD PARENT. So, do a brainstorm of each for yourself. What does the good parent do, in your mind?

always patient, never loses temper, always loving, fun, creative, willing to play, all food homemade and healthy, house always clean, involves kids in work around home in way they enjoy, never watches tv, makes things at night for children to do next day, has endless ideas for crafting and art and adventures…….

and the bad parent?

When you look at your lists, what do you notice?

Spend some time mining through the unconscious influencers, the judges who hold court in your mind and also the models that you strive to be like.

Who are you trying to please? Or who is guiding you throughout the day? Who weighs in, unconsciously, on your actions?

As we notice these hidden influences, we can release them, over and over. Thank them for trying to help, take what you want that truly works for you in your life, and let the rest go. The models who you strive to be like need to be let go, too, if you end up giving yourself a hard time for not living up to that. Hold onto the influences that FEEL GOOD. That is the sign of alignment with who you really want to be.

There is no other YOU on this planet. Your children chose you for very good reason. Trust that as you continue to grow. No need to be anyone else but you.  As you become more and more conscious, you will develop an even stronger sense of intution, an ability to listen to your own Inner Guide. That is the ONLY person you ever need to invite to be peering over your shoulder.

I found this blog post one of the best that I’ve read in a while. It’s pretty interesting how becoming a parent we always end up having folks on the bleachers, interrupting our psyche, and blocking our natural authentic instincts, influencing us at every turn. May I venture to say that that influence is not for the best?

I’m not saying that we don’t need each other, and that we should always do what we want regardless…but, check out who those people are that you have bequeathed great power over your unconscious choices.

This blog post is a must read. I would have Kris on my bleachers any day!

Bangs Away!!! NaVloPoMo09 Day 27

Download now or watch on posterous
Bangs Away! - Medium.m4v (18127 KB)

I had a few extra moments yesterday to finally do what I’ve been wanting to do for quite a while. I chopped off my long bangs :) This wasn’t the first time that I’ve done this. Usually I get the feeling to do it. Then whenever I finally get a chance to shower alone (minus my little one year old) and I get a chance to actually wash my hair, I hurry up, get the scissors and GO FOR IT!

On average 50/50 chance that the bangs will be even.

I’ve gotten used to walking around with crooked bangs. Oh well, they’ll grow back :D
Randy’s been calling me Moe. Hee hee

Try at your own risk!
I gotta tell you…I feel soooooo much better. I LOOOOOVE my new bangs ala Elsie!

Thanksgiving Day: First Time Facing Forward NaVloPoMo09 Day 26

Download now or watch on posterous
Thanksgiving - Medium.m4v (6862 KB)

Hunter has NEVER been one to ride the car well. In fact I can recall only a handful of times that she’s actually been ‘ok’ in the car. Usually, I have to engage her with songs and chatting the entire time. Often times all this engagement is simply to have her NOT go into a screaming crying fit. She was not made to be bound up and hates to be in the car seat. (I’m sure that she is not alone in this feeling)

Today was a milestone. She is ready to turn around and face forward! She’s been ready for a while (at least according to the 1 year and 20 lbs rule regarding when children can be turned forward facing), but I resisted a bit upon reading how much safer children are facing backwards. I decided it was ok now because of her psychological well being and ours

I hope that she enjoys the rides forward :D
Today she did very well. As you see in the video she was zoned out looking at the road and listening to music. I didn’t have to sing any songs!

The song you hear is her FAVORITE SONG! Her Daddy started playing this CD when she was a teeny little baby, whenever Mami wasn’t around (as she was screaming the entire time) She’s grown quite fond of the sounds of the song called “My Heart, My Life”. The entire CD called Night Song has become one of my favorites also. It’s a beautiful album.

New Project 5 - Medium.m4v (6898 KB)

Only a few more days to go!!!! Less than a week left of posting a video every day!

Ok,

I shot more footage today, and I only chose this snippet because it was the shortest and because I didn’t want to edit the other stuff. Lazy. I know. I got some great Hunter stuff, but aren’t you guys sick of her? I’M NOT, but c’mon how much Hunter can non family members take? :D
Do I sound TOTALLY ungrounded in this video or what? I need some serious grounding food, I tell ya…and more sleep. that would be good. Sleep is good.

Eating at Whole Foods NaVloPoMo09 Day 24

Eating at Whole Foods.m4v (12969 KB)

I gotta say that this whole NaVloPoMo thing is kinda like running a marathon and I think that I’m hitting a wall ;) It’s hard to keep thinking daily about what in the world you are going to shoot a video of.

I’m getting less thoughtful and more ‘here’s the video camera, i’ll just shoot that’.

Hunter and I went to Whole Foods today, so I could post a couple of postcards for my workshop over there. She LOVES the Whole Foods chicken noodle soup!

My Teethies Hurt :( NaVloPoMo09 Day 22

Download now or watch on posterous
New Project 2 - Medium.m4v (4657 KB)

Hunter had a hard night again. Poor little one. In the morning I caught a glimpse of her gum-line on both sides of her mouth. Both sides were crazy swollen, but especially her left side. She was very cranky all morning until she took a nap. This little bit of video was taken as she woke up from her 1.5 hour nap.

The video speaks for itself.

She’s precious.
She had a lovely afternoon by the way. Just lovely. At this moment, she’s sleeping soundly. Hurrah for Hyland’s Teething Tablets

Elsie Escobar a "New Media Pioneer?" Yep! That's me! yeay :)

Download now or preview on posterous
New Media Pioneers.pdf (1379 KB)

I got the PDF copy of the article for the Nov/Dec issue of Hispanic Business Magazine in which I was featured. There is a quote within this article that I was very flattered by and sorta proud of:

Escobar may be a perfect bellwether: a curios mind drove her to use new media to expand her true passion. Unafraid of trying something new, using herself as a brand, or risking untested business models, she’s taking a leap of faith that she can mine some of that untapped potential in new media.
Neato! I like the sound of that ‘perfect bellwether’. It forced me to go and look that up, as I can’t recall the last time that I came across that word :)

bellwether is any entity in a given arena that serves to create or influence trends or to presage future happenings.
The term is derived from the Middle English bellewether and refers to the practice of placing a bell around the neck of a castrated ram (a wether) leading its flock ofsheep.[1][2] The movements of the flock could be noted by hearing the bell before the flock was in sight.
I am the bell around a castrated ram’s neck! ;)

It’s a very well written article, very much worth the read. The female new media presence as in many other fields is not strong, and as podcasters, few and far between. Maybe this article will inspire more women to step into new media :) Maybe?
Your thoughts about women in New Media? How about some that really rock your world?

One of my personal female new media power houses is the mighty Zadi Diaz, whom I believe should have very much been part of this article. She is pretty darn inspiring :)
