A Saturday Afternoon was Taken Over by Healthcare Reform- NaVloPoMo Day 7

I got a little creative with my daily video in November. I had a plan as to what I wanted to shoot today. We were going to go to Babies R Us to stock up on some essentials for Hunter. I thought it would be great to share some of the stuff that we like.

But, the Saturday was taken over by Healthcare Reform.

We ended up staying at grandma’s house and watching CSPAN basically the whole afternoon.
Well, I must admit that I didn’t watch. I’m a bit too overwhelmed by all of it, and my mind can’t really capture what’s going on.

So, I got creative and expressed it via my daily vid for NaVloPoMo09 or National Vlog Posting Month
Peace

Casting light at the good stuff of being Grumpy! Hurrah for bad moods! According to this study it's good for you :)

Too many Clothes!

How about this:

“Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts, negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world.

A mildly negative mood may actually promote a more concrete, accommodative and ultimately more successful communication style

How’s that for seeing the beauty in everything? We often think that being grumpy or just having one of those days is something less than optimal. I know that I feel that a lot. It’s like as a yogi I need to always be smiling from ear to ear, and bouncing off the walls blissed out of my mind ;) Giving ourselves the time to be grumpy if that’s what we need may just be what is necessary to take us deeper into refining who we are and how best to apply and choose the way we engage the world. Being grumpy becomes what we in Anusara Yoga call Muscular Energy, or finding steadiness and groundedness, which is absolutely necessary to finally smile from ear to ear and make all those around you shine with joy :D

Check out the full BBC article regarding this study.

Neat huh?

Note to self: Must get a Grumpy t-shirt…

MacBook Hand Rest Cracked.

MacBook Cracked Hand rest - Medium.m4v (9115 KB)

I forgot to mention in the video that this is the 2nd time that this has happened. Initially it cracked I would say a month after I purchased my MacBook in Nov 2006.

I didn’t have it replaced until sometime 2008 and now yet again. Gotta get it in before my Apple Care runs out!  I’m gonna be sad without my lovely friend but maybe this will give me to opportunity to do ‘other’ things :)

What’s your favorite non-gadget related activity?

SuperDuper and External Hard Drive: Follow Up, I'm Backed Up!!!! Yippeeee :D

SuperDuper backup
Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch!

What in the world is up with the FreeAgent Desk Seagate Drive? It seems that the external HD has some files or software in there that messes things up when wanting to format the drive for Mac OS extended (journaled). Bizzarro. Here’s a tiny time line of my day with sprinkles of troubleshooting along the way.

10 am Up, exhausted (I know LATE, but the mighty Hunter decided to nurse basically throughout the night….non stop almost….I know)

10:30-11:30 am Breakfast for Hunter and I. Hunter clean up.

11:30-12:30 Erica, our lovely babysitter came over to watch Hunter while I interviewed Michael Londra. Was able to read comments and tweets regarding my rant yesterday

1 pm- 2:30 pm Hunter fell asleep!!!! At this time, I got a chance to email Victor Cajiao and Dave Nanian from SuperDuper. I also got on the phone with a new journalist/documentary producer that I’m going to be working with and had to meet today. Finally was able to get into SuperDuper and begin to see that the trouble was all about the HD. The fabulous Victor called me and he talked me through what needed to be done. Right as I was about to attempt to do what Victor told me to do, Hunter woke up.

2:30-3:30 pm Had to get Hunter and myself ready to go out in the mid forties windy weather to meet with journalist at the Co-op, and walked to the Co-op.

3:30-5:30 pm Meeting at the Co-op + Lunch

5:30-6:30 pm Was finally able to focus a bit on the formating issue at hand as Hunter’s Daddy had gotten her some new Elmo DVD’s and I put one on as I dove into disk utility. I found that there were still troubles and decided to call Victor to speak with him. We had a productive conversation solving the problem.

6:30 pm Finally backed up with SuperDuper!

What was the problem: After partitioning the ext HD, only one partition formatted properly, the other one was unable to be verified or repaired:

Disk Utility error message
Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch!

I ended up having to erase the entire drive and repartion again. The second time the first partition formatted properly to for Mac OS extended (journaled) but the second one ‘refused’. It would only accept being formatted as a FAT32.

What solved the problem? I erased the drive again and this time partitioned it into 3 partitions. I made the 3rd partition as small as I could make it. For whatever reason this solved the problem. So now I have 3 partitions….Not exactly what I wanted but am just happy that I was able to back up, back up and back up!
I’m still not sure what in the world was going on. It just makes me wanna back up on the cloud…I just didn’t want to keep spending more money!

The Baby and "Beyond A Star" NaVloPoMo Day 5

The Baby and “Beyond A Star” from Elsie Escobar on Vimeo.

Today I had the opportunity to interview the lovely Michael Londra for iProng Magazine. He is absolutely a lovely person. In order to prepare for the interview, I listened to his album “Beyond A Star” in the late afternoon. Hunter has really taken a liking to the music. She plays so calmly while it’s playing and lately she crawls over to where the CD player is and starts dancing :) It’s pretty cute!

Although it’s a holiday album, it’s not your typical ‘holiday’ album. It’s a real pleasure to put it on and enjoy a slow and magical Winter arrival.

Stay tuned for the interview in iProng Magazine to learn more about it!

SuperDuper and External Hard Drive Rant

SuperDuper and External Hard Drive Rant from Elsie Escobar on Vimeo.

So as of this moment as I’m hastily writing this post I have not addressed any of the issues that I speak of in the video. Welcome to Day 4 of NaVloPoMo (November video blogging month!)

*sigh*

Troubleshooting is for people who aren’t mothers to a one year old.

Upon coming home from teaching I:

  • Cleaned up after Hunter’s dinner
  • Cleaned up Hunter’s play area
  • Hunter shower time
  • Hunter put to bed
  • Swept and tidied up the homestead (while quickly editing video above and uploading it. iMovie rocks for that)
  • Final preparations for interview tomorrow with Michael Londra for iProng Mag

Yea, no time to even attempt to launch SuperDuper again…Before shutting down computer I attempted to launch it 3x and not once did it actually load…regarding the external HD, no clue what’s going on. It’s a 1.5 TB Free Agent Desk External Drive by Seagate. Boo

Do you have a decent paycheck? Betcha you're a white-collar professional, that is according to a recent CNN article re social media demos

I think I know the answer as this little post is going on Facebook and Twitter ;)

A recent CNN article called “Does Your Social Class Determine Your Online Social Network” (catchy title) gives some pretty interesting little details regarding social media demographics. Here’s some key data:

  • 23 percent of Facebook users earn more than $100,000 a year
  • 37 percent of MySpace members earn less than $50,000 annually
  • MySpace users tend to be “in middle-class, blue-collar neighborhoods”
  • “Facebook [use] goes off the charts in the upscale suburbs”
  • Even more affluent are users of Twitter, the microblogging site, and LinkedIn, a networking site geared to white-collar professionals. Almost 38 percent of LinkedIn users earn more than $100,000 a year.
I’m sure these findings are going to shift the way advertisers approach some of these  social networking sites…not that they haven’t already. The full article has some other great stats.

How do you feel about that?
Are you Facebook or MySpace?
